Artist's Description
Walking towards Notre Dame along the Seine River was a delight. About 2 weeks after taking this photo the Seine River flooded high enough to submerge this entire walkway and halfway up the building behind the trees in this image. This photo was taken from the Left Bank in the 5th Arrondissement; Notre Dame can be seen in the distance. In late May and early June 2016 Paris received a lot of rain, which flooded the Seine River to 15-17 meters above its normal level. It was quite a sight to see! Thankfully the water did not go over the banks; however, the lower level walkways and buildings at the water level were flooded for at least a week. Water taxi stands were submerged. Water levels were too high for boats to travel underneath the ornate bridges so boat traffic ceased for nearly a week until the waters receded.
