Description
Standing here under the Venice Fishing Pier in Florida is one of my favorite places to take photos. I love looking out into infinity and hearing the waves as they come in, feeling the sand in-between my toes, the salty sea breeze blowing through my hair. I watch each moment of light change as the sun drops below the horizon. It is an endless display of beauty mixing liquid and light, and a reminder that no matter how my day went, it can always end beautifully. This is my happy place right here on the Gulf of Mexico on the west coast of Florida.
I found some poetry which describes the feeling of being here:
"It is almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream." ~ Bern Williams
"Sunset is the opening music of the night." ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
"Let the sea breeze blow your hair, let the sunset bring tranquility to your heart, let the distant places you travel allow you to explore yourself." ~ Somya Kedia
"A sunset is the sun's fiery kiss to the night." ~Crystal Woods
"Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Never go too long without watching a sunset." ~ Atticus
A beautiful poem by William Stanley Braithwaite:
"Out of the Sunset's Red":
"Out of the sunset's red
Into the blushing sea,
The winds of day drop dead
And dreams come home to me. -
The sea is still, - and apart
Is a stillness in my heart.
The night comes up the beach,
The dark steals over all,
Though silence has no speech
I hear the sea-dreams call
To my heart; - and in reply
It answers with a sigh."
The fishing pier in Venice, Florida is a great place to watch the sunset at the end of the day. The pier extends 700 feet out into the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and is very tall. It is located in Brohard Park at the southern end of the island of Venice. There is a restaurant called Sharky's on the end of the pier. Caspersen Beach is just down the road where fossilized sharks teeth can be found. This is one of the most popular landmarks in Venice.
I also have a horizontal version of this photo that shows more of the scene. The horizontal photo won the Fine Art America billboard contest on 9-15-2022 and will be hung on a billboard in a major US city in the fall of 2022. It placed in the top 20 images of 17,456 images and 6652 artists worldwide.
