Tucked away in Sebring, Central Florida is Highlands Hammock State Park, which has a beautiful cypress swamp and other trails. A narrow boardwalk leads you to the center of the swamp where you can see many tall cypress trees reflecting in the water. Their tall reflections with the sky are an optical illusion, making it appear as if the sky is below you and you are standing high above the water, when you are actually only one foot above water. This was a very peaceful and quiet place, serene and soothing to the soul. This photo is also available in black and white. (See "Total Serenity, Black and White").

Thank you, Orlando! Yes, nature heals the soul. After living in Florida seeing alligators everywhere, you kinda get used to them. Although we always are cautious around them. They are in most ponds, even in residential areas. We once had a 6 foot long alligator in our backyard for 3 days! Then an alligator catcher came and caught him to release elsewhere.

I am so glad you got some inner peace and healing in this lovely place during the difficult time of your life Liesl. i agree, adventure feeds the soul, and for me nature heals the soul. it reminds one the connection one have with the universe and the larger world, and suddenly all personal problem became so small… you are so brave to hang out in areas where there is alligators!! i don't think i could do that at all :D

Thank you, Rainbow! I appreciate your kind comments so much! This one made me laugh! No Tarzan or monkeys in this park, but definitely alligators and birds! I have to be careful at times on the trails because you never know when you might see an alligator. On the day I took this photo, it was during a very difficult time in my life, and the peacefulness and serenity in this place was very healing. So quiet except for the birds chirping. Exploring and photography have been therapeutic. And I am thankful to have had the opportunity to see many places. I've learned to seize the day, life is short. Adventure feeds the soul!
